Buying a Trailer
As a consumer it is nearly impossible to fully understand the hundreds of safety related regulations that trailer manufacturers are required by law to comply with which includes lights, trailer capacities, brakes, and much more.
The NATM has made it easier on consumers by creating the NATM compliance decal. Trailers featuring this decal are built by manufacturers who have verified compliance through the NATM Compliance Verification Program?
NATM has compiled the applicable federal regulations and industry best practices and on a biennial basis visits member facilities to ensure they have the manufacturing processes in place to build trailer in accordance with these standards.
Participation in this program is MANDATORY for all NATM members and only NATM member who have successfully completed the compliance verification program are allowed to place to NATM Compliance Decals on their trailers.

- ??Before You Tow – before you hit the road, make sure you are safely hitched?.?
ADDITIONAL NOTE: There is no standardization for measuring trailer sizes. For that reason some dealers or manufacturers may measure their trailers including the coupler while others stick to the measurements of the trailer bed only. Thus, trailers with the same cargo capacity dimensions may be listed as both a 5×8 or 5×10 trailers. Consumers need to be aware of this difference and make sure to ask the appropriate questions to ensure their needs are met.
